- Part 1: Non-Income Based Career Choices. Researching careers will obviously be helpful for you. This part is intended to NOT be about compensation. You might focus on things like work environment, community impact, prestige, projected employment opportunities or personal interests and passions that draw you to that career.
- For Part 1 a wonderful resource to use for RELIABLE information is the Occupational Outlook Handbook
- Part 2: Income in 10 years & Benefits package. Is your career Hourly pay or Salary? What is your Total Compensation Package? This part is intended for you to understand the potential income you might earn AS WELL AS the potential benefits. Benefits may be harder to find but are very important for employees.
- Do NOT use the Average salary for your chosen career. You are supposed to calculate it for 10 years time (post school). You will not start your careers at the average. Averages include the highest paid individuals in that career field which inflate the total compared to the median, or more appropriately, the starting salary for your chosen career. Or use the calculator below. Examples: A senior student who goes into work could calculate salary for someone with 8-9 years experience. But a freshman who earns a 4 year Bachelor of Science would calculate their salary as someone with 1-2 years experience.
- For Part 2 the Occupational Outlook Handbook will also be very useful. You may also need use your internet search skills to understand the full implications of a career's potential benefits.

- Part 3: Alternative Revenue Sources. Are you a "hustler?" Some economists argue the future will be full of "gigs" not careers! Of course, many individuals also use additional revenue streams to supplement their lifestyle, help make ends meet, and "make their money work for them."
