Additional Resources
If looking to go above and beyond the lessons of the course it is best to wait until Unit 8: Beta Testing where this is an objective. This will allow you to get a working prototype before adding complications in addition to completing a portfolio. The difficulty is you may need to research if you want to add code in addition to the lessons. Thinking like a programmer, how might they implement what you are trying to achieve? -Mr. Thrower
I encourage you to book a Live Lesson with me in lieu of completing Unit 9 Lesson 7 (Unit 8 Activity 2: Beta Testing) if you need help with your game. We can discuss the challenges you have faced in the game, what you tried to do to solve them, and test if we can fix anything, plus you get a portfolio done!
- The User Manual is a good way to improve your PlayCanvas skills:
https://developer.playcanvas.com/en/user-manual/
- In addition WC3Schools is a good resource for understanding javascript:
https://www.w3schools.com/js/ - Another site I have personally found interesting in its format is:
https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/introduction-to-javascript/ - kenny.nl is used to get free, premade assets
www.kenney.nl/assets/space-kit - This program is used for Unit 4 Activity 2, but you may use any graphics image manipulation program (like photoshop or GIMP) to accomplish making your images. These are for your Heads Up Display (HUD) later, so please make them small (50 x 50 pixels).
Pixilart.com - For sound assets, in addition to kenney.nl students have suggested:
freesound.org
mixkit.co

What about Chat GPT? |
I asked Chat GPT to make me an office catapult game. This was the poor result. Please don't try to use chatgpt to code. A tool like any other; It won't work unless you have the knowledge to know how to use it, and where to adapt or change it. So please don't use ChatGPT. It doesn't tend to work for novice coders. Following the lessons are much easier to get working. This doesn't mean you can't use resources to adapt or iterate. But if you cannot get the basic functions from the lessons to work. You won't be able to get these advanced scripts with more variables, databases, plug-in needs, or coding errors to work either:
